We have been studying and listening to a lot about FOSS… and one thing I came to know is that, its mainly a topic about sharing knowlege, distributing it, rather than just owning it.
The FOSS stands for Free Open Source Softwares.
Free- means that the softwares are free to download, install, copy and redistribute.More rather free term depicts the freedom of usage, freedom of modification and freedom of everything that may be required in concern with a software.
Open Source- means the source code of every software is freely available on the web, to anyone who wants to study and modify it.
The research is still going on…..
Our college- Acharya Narendra Dev is the pioneer among institutions which promote FOSS and Linux in such a large pace and scale. There have been numbers of workshops on linux, Open Source cultures in the college. And all credit goes to our Principal Mam- Dr.Savithri Singh. Hope other colleges also strive their foot towards promoting Open Source and using it.
The photos of the workshops will be uploaded shortly.
However, my presentations on Linux concepts and different topics could be viewed here.
I recently attended a workshop called ‘FREED.IN‘ which was to promote FOSS culture, and its meaning. Have a look at the pictures.
The pictures of the programme are available here.
